I never thought I’d write these words: Bill O’Reilly is right. On his November 28 broadcast, O’Reilly spoke with a prophet’s voice:
“There’s a very secret plan. And it’s a plan that nobody’s going to tell you, ‘Well, we want to diminish Christian philosophy in the U.S.A. because we want X, Y, and Z.’ They’ll never ever say that.” If you are a doubter, doubt no more. For yesterday, in the Chamber of the United States Senate, we got incontrovertible proof that Bill is right.
After rushing half-way around the world to take his seat as Senate President, Vice-President Dick Cheney revealed the anti-Christ behind the born-again façade as he cast the tie breaking vote to cut $39.7 billion from programs that serve poor families, the elderly and the disabled.
Bill says that the anti-Christs are “hateful liars” who “spit out” “blatant propaganda” that is “picked up by the mainstream media, and rammed down the public’s throat.” You got that right, Bill. They tell us they are compassionate conservatives, committed to restoring the place of faith in the public square. What their actions reveal is pure, unadulterated plutocrats, whose only concern is to fatten the purses of their corporate sponsors.
The plutocrats say that they are concerned about the out-of-control federal budget deficit. So they needed to prove that they could exercise some fiscal restraint. But instead of taking back some of the trillions of dollars in tax cuts that went primarily to the wealthy and very wealthy, they decided to exercise fiscal restraint on the poor.
“Victory #1!” gloated Cheney’s fellow anti-Christ, Senator Bill Frist, of Tennessee, as Cheney cast his vote.
A long time ago, in the ancient land of Israel, the progenitors of the plutocrats were described by the prophet Amos as those who “trample the needy and do away with the poor of the land.” While they pretended to care about the sacred traditions, all they were really concerned with was making money. Amos quoted their refrain:
“When will the New Moon be over that we may sell grain, and the Sabbath be ended that we may market wheat, skimping the measure, boosting the price and cheating with dishonest scales, buying the poor with silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, selling even the sweepings with the wheat.”
The plutocracy of ancient Israel ended when their misplaced hopes in military might resulted in the collapse of their nation at the hands of their enemies. For no nation can be forever sustained in which there is “a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.” Israel starved to death, choking on its gold. Can the United States of America long endure the famine?
Actually Bill, you only got it partly right. There is a secret plot to strip all vestiges of Christian compassion from the deus ex machine that is the real power behind Cheney, Bush, Frist and their plutocrat paramours. Only it’s not a plot to steal Christmas. These people love Christmas—their version of it, that is—all fourth quarter profits and same store earning reports. No, it’s a plot to steal the very center of Christianity right out of the manger: that God loves the poor so much that He chose to enter our world as a peasant child, born in a barn, and lying in a feed trough. The plutocrats are terrified that people should know that God. Hence their plot to replace the Incarnation with the bar code, the MasterCard, the annual report.
The plot thickens.
